Before You Visit
Before you visit our fragrant forest of fresh-cut trees, give some thought to the space where your tree will stand when it gets home. To start, measure your ceiling height. Then decide how much floor space you’d like the tree to occupy – including space for presents. You’ll also want to think about how you like to decorate for Christmas. Do tradition and nostalgia guide your style? Or are you into a more open, architectural look for you tree? With these answers as your starting point, you can be confident in finding the perfect tree – whether it’s from our Alpine, Tree Farm, or Classic selection.
Alpine
The trees in our Alpine selection have that fresh-from-the-forest look. They’ve been allowed to grow in a more natural, untamed way which creates an open-branched structure perfect for a modern, minimal design aesthetic. Within the Alpine selection you’ll find Fraser fir and Victorian Fraser fir.
Fraser Fir
Fraser fir is known for its incredible fragrance and its lovely blue-green needles on slightly upward-turned branches. Fragrance, strong branching , and good needle retention are just three reasons this is the country’s most popular fresh-cut Christmas tree.
Victorian Fraser Fir
This style of fir hasn’t been sheared which allows its natural form to show. With plenty of open space between the branches, our Victorian fir has a unique sculptural quality that serves as its own beautiful focal point – even with minimal decorations.
Tree Farm
Our Tree Farm collection features varieties that grow well here in the Midwest. These trees are full in shape with soft needles, a little heavier branching, and a subtle citrus scent.
Concolor Fir
Concolor fir is a dense tree with beautiful blue-green coloring. The needles are soft and densely packed, making them the most popular choice if you’d like to add a blanket of snowy white flocking to your tree.
Douglas Fir
Douglas fir has somewhat flexible branches with a gentle downward turn. Its bright green needles are longer and softer than many of our other trees – and they emit an even sweeter fragrance if you rub them.
Classic
The trees in our Classic selection have that dense, conical shape that so many of us identify as the classic Christmas tree silhouette. Their sturdy branches are ready to hold lots of ornaments and fill your living space with the nostalgic fragrance of the season.
Balsam Fir
Closely related to Fraser fir, Balsam fir is also famous for its fragrance – that classic scent that fills the home through the holidays. flat and thick along the stems, the dark green needles retain well on the tree, and the branches have a bit more flexibility than Fraser fir.
Noble Fir
Noble fir is remarkably symmetrical, and its stiff, slightly upturned branches are arrange in defined layers, almost like shelves. They’re perfect for hanging lots of large ornaments. Its needles are a deep, bluish-green and twist upward to reveal their silver undersides.
Premium Fraser Fir
Our Premium Fraser fir has been nurtured and hand-selected for its pleasing uniformity in shape and texture. This tree is extra dense – packed with branches and needles that radiate that nostalgic scent while holding lots of ornaments.
Now, for the Height
After you’ve settled on a Christmas tree with the right structure and fragrance for your space and style, it’s time to look at height. Scale is important, and in general, a Christmas tree looks best when it reaches to about 6″ below the ceiling in your space. If you plan to use a tree topper, that clearance should increase to 18″. And be sure to allow for about 4″ at the base of your tree for the tree stand too.
Care Tips
Once you’ve found your Christmas tree, we’ll make a fresh cut on the trunk for you and load it onto your car. When you get home, you’ll want to place the tree in water within two hours of cutting to prevent the trunk for sealing itself off with sap. For maximum beauty and safety, use a tree stand that holds at least one gallon of water. Keep in mind that a 7-8′ tree may absorb a gallon of water each day for the first few days, so pan to refill your tree stand daily and be sure not to let the water level drop below the bottom of the trunk. With consistent moisture and by avoiding spaces with direct heat – from a vent, furnace, or fireplace – your tree will keep its beautiful look for a month or more.
